About Company and Program

The Team Kentucky Internship Program (TKIP) is a prestigious and competitive initiative designed to introduce talented and motivated college students to public service. Successful applicants perform valuable work within state agencies across the Commonwealth.

To be eligible for TKIP, applicants must:
• Be enrolled at an accredited Kentucky post-secondary school or an approved educational institution.
• Maintain good academic standing with at least a 2.5 GPA at the time of hire.
Graduating high school seniors enrolled in college courses with a 2.5 GPA are also eligible.
• Candidates must be 18 years of age by May 15, 2026.
• Applicants must upload their unofficial transcript during the application process.

The program includes specific requirements for interns:
• Attend TKIP Orientation.
• Attend at least 1 Professional Development Day.
• Attend at least 1 Agency Tour.
• Complete 300 working hours throughout the program.
• Submit a final project.
• Attend the TKIP Reception.

This internship is for a position within the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), specifically in the District 5 Shepherdsville Section.

A Day in the Life for an intern in this section involves working alongside experienced technologists and engineers. The intern will learn to perform inspections, record data, and prepare reports related to highway construction projects.

Responsibilities Include:
Learning to read and interpret engineering documents.
Learning to operate equipment.
Maintaining tools and supplies.
Recording data.
Assisting in developing proposals and reports.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be 18 years of age at the time of employment.
• Must be enrolled on a full-time basis in high school as a graduating senior currently enrolled in college-level courses OR a college-level student enrolled at an accredited Kentucky post-secondary school or other educational institution approved by the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet.
• Applicants must furnish proof of enrollment to the Personnel Cabinet.
• Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the duration of employment. The employing agency is responsible for ensuring these are maintained.
