Job Description

This job posting is for a Summer 2026 Engineering Internship at Invenergy. The application window will be open for a minimum of three calendar days from the posting date and may remain open longer based on business needs.

Exploration: Explore Chicago with fellow interns.
The internship program typically runs from the end of May/early June through August, lasting approximately 10 to 12 weeks.

About The Internship

Applicants for this position will be considered for internships within various engineering departments across Invenergy. Engineering interns are responsible for managing initiatives that support the technical design, evaluation, and construction of commercial and utility-scale projects. In the past, engineering interns have joined teams such as:

Wind Engineering:
• Evaluate project constraints and design optimal project layouts using GIS software to maximize project value.
• Design site measurement campaigns, analyze meteorological datasets, and establish opinions on long-term resource characteristics for project sites.
• Model expected energy production and related key metrics.
• Conduct site visits to support site evaluation and wind turbine micrositing.
• Participate in landowner meetings, community outreach events, and construction meetings.
• Gain knowledge of wind turbine technology and related technical and market trends.
• Collaborate with wind turbine Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to optimize equipment selection based on power curves, operational modes, mechanical suitability, and curtailment strategies.
• Interface with project development, origination, finance, environmental, GIS, and project management teams to support development, marketing, financing, permitting, and construction efforts.

Solar Engineering:
• Interface with Project Management and Operations teams through to project commercial operations.
• Conduct site visits to support site evaluation, suitability, and due diligence.
• Participate in landowner meetings, community outreach events, and monthly construction meetings.
• Prepare conceptual project layouts using CAD and GIS software.
• Optimize layouts to maximize project value.
• Utilize performance modeling software, including PVSyst and System Advisory Model (SAM), to prepare energy production estimates.

BESS (Battery Energy Storage) Engineering:
• Interface with battery, inverter, and pad mount transformer OEMs to gather technical information and stay updated on technology advancements and trends.
• Prepare conceptual project layouts using QGIS, CAD, or Visio software.
• Optimize layouts to maximize project value.
• Conduct site visits to support site evaluation, suitability, and due diligence efforts.
• Assist the Development team with federal, state, county, and local permitting efforts.
• Support the progress of team initiatives, including safety, material/process template improvement, and design optimization.

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a 4-year Bachelor’s degree program with an expected graduation date between Fall 2026 and Summer 2027.
• Majoring in Engineering, specifically Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications

• A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Demonstrated interest in the renewable energy or clean energy sector.

Base Pay

The base pay range for this internship position is $22.00 – $25.00 Hourly. Further details about the specific base pay will be shared by the recruiter during the hiring process. Interns may also be eligible to contribute to a 401k plan.
