Job Description (Detailed)

This role at Ochsner Health is a rotational position designed to provide experience across various financial departments. The successful candidate will perform duties as assigned by managers in each department.

Departments of Rotation:
Accounts Payable
General Accounting
Payroll
Financial Accounting

Education Requirements:
Required: Actively working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Work Experience Requirements:
Required: None (entry-level opportunity).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
Computer Skills: Must have the necessary skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information, with above-average proficiency in Windows-style applications and keyboarding.
Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to present information clearly and professionally to various levels of individuals.
Team Management Skills: Strong capabilities in team management.

Job Duties:
The primary duties for this position are diverse, reflecting its rotational nature across multiple accounting functions:

Accounts Payable (AP):
• Process AP transactions accurately and timely.
• Enter vendor invoices.
• Match invoices to purchase orders.
Payroll:
• Process Payroll transactions accurately and timely.
• Prepare FICA recovery spreadsheets.
• Perform Payroll account reconciliations.
General Accounting:
• Record cash payments and fixed assets to the Lawson system.
• Prepare cash reconciliations.
Financial Accounting/Analysis:
• Review assigned financial statement lines for proper coding and accruals.
• Analyze assigned General Ledger (GL) accounts for proper accruals and coding.
• Analyze financial statement variances for assigned accounts.
Compliance:
• Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements applicable to the assigned area.
• Ensure compliance with all such laws, regulations, and standards.
• Comply with the Ochsner Health System Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including immediate reporting of any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors, patient/employee safety, patient privacy, or other compliance concerns.

Physical and Environmental Demands:
Sedentary Work: Involves sitting most of the time, with occasional walking or standing for brief periods. Requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to move objects.
Flexible Work Schedule: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, potentially more than eight hours a day.
Environmental Exposure: Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissue. Incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid, and there is no occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.
