Job Description

This is an Environmental Spring 2026 Internship opportunity designed for motivated civil or environmental engineering students eager to gain intensive, real-world experience and mentorship from professional engineers. The role involves a significant amount of outdoor work and hands-on learning within the field of environmental engineering.

The internship focuses on providing practical experience in environmental site assessment and remediation, with interns directly contributing to group projects. Interns will balance both field and office time, collaborating closely with engineers and scientists.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
• Monitoring field explorations, including drilling and test pit explorations, as well as construction projects, under the direct guidance of experienced engineers and scientists.
• Documenting field conditions thoroughly and completing accurate field reports.
• Performing various environmental field sampling activities, such as collecting samples of soil, groundwater, surface water, sub-slab vapor, and indoor air, under professional supervision.
• Learning about the environmental regulatory framework, specifically the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP), and understanding different Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) submittals and documentation requirements.
• Assisting engineers and scientists with office and project-related deliverables, including data tabulation, proposal preparation, and report writing.
• Aiding in the organization and maintenance of field equipment to ensure readiness.
• Maintaining field readiness through proper preparation and staying current with all company training requirements.
• Conducting all work safely and actively supporting the safe work practices of team members.
• Potentially assisting with routine laboratory testing and analyses.
• Assisting with the organization and maintenance of laboratory and field equipment as needed.
• Providing general assistance to engineers with office and project-related tasks.

Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent, and current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program specializing in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
Technical Skills: Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is preferred.
Soft Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively in a team environment and complete tasks in a timely manner.
Logistics: A valid driver’s license and a reliable form of personal transportation are required.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:
• Candidates will undergo a background check and reference check.
• The role requires the ability to perform a wide range of physical activities, including regular walking, bending, standing, and reaching.
• Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs is necessary.
• The position also involves consistent work on a PC, with prolonged sitting and viewing of a monitor/screen.

Compensation:
The estimated salary range for this position, located in Boston, MA, is $25 per hour. Compensation is determined by individual factors such as education and experience, as well as internal equity. Annual salary reviews are conducted, and employees are eligible for pay increases based on individual performance.
