Engineering Intern | West Basin Municipal Water District

The Tone:
This is a part-time/temporary internship at West Basin Municipal Water District, located in Carson, CA. The District is a leader in water recycling, conservation, and water resource management, providing drinking and recycled water to nearly one million residents. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the development of recycled water production facilities and contribute to critical water resource management efforts within the Engineering Department.

The TL;DR

• Type: Full-year, in-person, part-time/temporary, at-will position
• Location: Carson, CA (On-site)
• Pay: $18.50–$21.50 hourly
• Team: Assigned to the District’s Engineering Department, working with Professional Engineers
• Mission: Assist Professional Engineers with recycled water infrastructure development and capital improvement programs to support water resource management.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop recycled water facilities: Perform various tasks to support the development of recycled water production, storage, and distribution facilities.
• Manage capital improvement projects: Assist with the management of the capital improvement program and oversight of construction projects.
• Conduct field inspections: Assist with field inspections and provide oversight for small construction projects, ensuring compliance and progress.
• Compile engineering data: Gather and compile essential data for comprehensive engineering studies and analytical reports.
• Support departmental operations: Provide support for standard Engineering Department duties, including filing, document management, and inter-departmental deliveries.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or community college with at least sophomore standing, or a recent graduate (within the last six months) with a Bachelor’s degree. A major or degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field is required for consideration.
• Experience: Ability to commit to working for a minimum of six months. The role is designed for individuals seeking to apply academic knowledge in a practical engineering environment.
• Skills: Excellent communication and technical skills, comprehensive computer skills, and strong interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and maintaining professional relationships across the District.
• Bonus: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License, proof of insurance, and an acceptable driving record are preferred.
