Job Description (Transmission Line Engineer Internship)

Position Overview:
Kiewit is seeking Civil Engineering students for a Transmission Line Engineer internship. Interns will contribute to engineering and design tasks, applying engineering principles and design knowledge. The role involves supporting a team of specialized design professionals on a variety of substation, transmission, and distribution projects. These projects range from 12kV to 500kV and include both detailed engineering design and Engineer, Procure, Construct (EPC) models for clients nationwide.

Location: This position is based out of Kiewit’s Columbus, OH office.

Responsibilities:
As a Transmission Line Engineer Intern, key responsibilities include:
• Collaborating with the project team to create all design documents and drawings, including generating transmission line design criteria for PLS-CADD, preparing bills of materials, and applying field mark-ups of project as-built drawings with minimal supervision.
• Assisting with the use of engineering application software to complete tasks such as building, modifying, and analyzing transmission line, pole, and tower models using PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS TOWER.
• Supporting the development of construction assembly drawings, material specifications, and structure loading packages for vendor submittal.
• Reviewing project schedules and working with the project engineer to ensure projects remain on schedule.
• Properly utilizing the document management system.
• Applying corporate standard engineering practices.
• Assisting with various project activities.
• Helping with the communication and coordination of project activities with the project engineer, customer representatives, and other stakeholders as needed.
• Taking personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of assigned work.
• Bringing potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party.

Qualifications:
Candidates for this internship should meet the following criteria:
• Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
• A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
• Possess a basic knowledge and understanding of:
AC/DC fundamentals.
Per-unit mathematics and symmetrical components.
• The design documents and drawings necessary to complete a project.
Engineering standards, including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
• Common Word processing, Spreadsheet, and E-mail software.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Strong skills in communicating effectively with co-workers, vendors, clients, and other stakeholders.
