Job Description: Waterfront / Marine Engineering Intern or Co-op

Job Summary:
Langan is seeking a Waterfront / Marine Engineering Intern or Co-op to join its collaborative team in New York City. This role involves significant participation in both small-scale and large-scale projects related to shoreline developments. The intern will primarily assist in creating design documents for the repair and replacement of various waterfront structures. This opportunity offers direct partnership with waterfront leadership, providing exposure to field work, foundation and retaining wall design, and other geotechnical/waterfront aspects of construction.

Job Responsibilities:
The intern will perform a variety of tasks crucial to marine and waterfront engineering projects, including:
• Assisting with the planning and execution of field investigations, which involves collecting samples, performing field tests, and accurately collecting and recording data.
• Supporting the design efforts for resiliency projects, container terminals, and diverse marine/waterfront structures.
• Preparing essential technical reports, calculations, design plans, and specifications specifically for port, pier, and/or other maritime developments.
• Identifying and implementing solutions for both routine and more complex problems encountered in the field and/or laboratory settings.
• Conducting thorough file reviews, site reconnaissance, and document searches.
• Performing other duties as requested to support the team and projects.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Currently an active student pursuing a 4-year or advanced degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering. Geotechnical coursework is preferred.
• A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater is preferred.
• Possess working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite applications.
• Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Exhibit strong attention to detail combined with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities.
• Ability to effectively work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Possess reliable transportation to access job site visits and hold a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Compensation & Benefits (Intern/Co-op Specifics):
• The estimated hourly range for this role is $22 – $29. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications, knowledge, and skills.
• Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm’s annual bonus and performance review program (bonuses are discretionary based on individual job performance and firm profitability).
• Eligible employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time, and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors like hours worked, related work experience, and level.
