Job Description: Geotechnical Engineering Intern / Co-op

Langan is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Intern / Co-op to join its collaborative team in San Jose, California. This role is pivotal in assisting with the technical aspects of diverse geotechnical projects, ranging from small to large scale. The intern/co-op will have the opportunity to work directly with geotechnical leadership and gain valuable exposure to various project phases and tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
Field Investigations: Assist with the planning and execution of field investigations, including logging borings and test pits, collecting samples, performing field tests, and accurately collecting and recording data.
Construction Monitoring: Observe foundation and earthwork construction activities to monitor conformance with construction documents (plans and specifications).
Problem-Solving: Identify and implement solutions to problems encountered in the field and/or laboratory.
Documentation: Prepare standard logs and field forms, such as drilling and test pit logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs.
Research & Review: Conduct file reviews, perform site reconnaissance, and conduct document searches.
Calculations & Analysis: Perform calculations, learn to perform engineering analyses, and gain proficiency in geotechnical engineering software.
CAD & Graphics: Prepare report exhibits, figures, and plans using AutoCAD.
Report Preparation: Assist in preparing reports that document field investigations and analytical results.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as requested to support project needs.

Qualifications:
Education: Must be a student actively pursuing a 4-year or advanced degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering. Geotechnical coursework is preferred.
Academic Standing: A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater is preferred.
Technical Skills: Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite applications is required.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Personal Attributes: Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities.
Teamwork: Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
Logistics: Possess reliable transportation to access job site visits and a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Compensation & Benefits:
The estimated hourly range for this role is $22.00/hr – $29.00/hr. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications, and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills.
Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm’s annual bonus and performance review program (bonuses are discretionary based on individual performance and firm profitability).
