Job Description: Data Science Intern, Soccer Analytics

The Role
Boston Legacy FC is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Data Science Intern, Soccer Analytics. This role is pivotal in supporting player modeling and data analysis within the organization. The intern will collaborate closely with the Analytics department to generate data-driven insights that will directly inform and support coaching, scouting, and overall performance strategy. This position offers a unique chance to gain practical, hands-on experience in the field of sports analytics and contribute directly to the decision-making processes of a professional soccer club.

Key Responsibilities
• Build and enhance player performance models utilizing advanced statistical and machine learning methodologies.
• Develop and maintain robust data pipelines for the efficient collection, cleaning, and processing of diverse soccer-specific data sources.
• Collaborate with analytics team members to deliver actionable insights that will guide and inform sporting operations.

What We’re Looking For
• Educational Background: Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a closely related quantitative field.
• Analytical Skills: A strong understanding of statistical and/or machine learning modeling techniques is essential.
• Sports Analytics Experience (Preferred): Prior experience with sports analytics, acquired through internships, research projects, or independent work, is highly preferred.
• Soccer Knowledge (Plus): Familiarity with key soccer metrics and performance analysis tools will be considered a significant advantage.
