Job Description: Structural Engineering Intern – Summer 2026
This opportunity is part of WSP USA’s extensive internship program, which hosts hundreds of internships nationwide. The goal is to provide interns with hands-on, meaningful work experience that enhances their education and professional aptitude. Interns gain exposure to real projects by working alongside senior staff and benefit from mentorship, networking opportunities, and career connections through the Developing Professionals Network.
Role: Structural Engineering Intern – Summer 2026
Location: North Providence, RI office
Position Type: Temporary, 12-week program
Start Date: Scheduled for May 18th, 2026 (individual start date may be flexible)
Target Audience: Individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program.
Your Impact (Key Responsibilities):
• Support diverse engineering tasks with a focus on developing technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Learn basic principles of Structural Engineering.
• Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
• Support the preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are (Qualifications):
Required Qualifications:
• Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related Undergraduate program.
• Anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Demonstrated interest in Structural Engineering or a related field, with a strong desire to advance skills relevant to WSP’s work.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills for effective and professional interaction with both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adhering to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
• Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience using Revit and/or Structural Engineering Software (e.g., Ram, Risa, Etabs).
• Prior internship experience and leadership involvement on campus.
Compensation:
• Expected pay range: $19.13 – $30.00 per hour.
