About the Job:
This is for an Editorial Intern position with TravelAge West, Northstar’s publication for travel advisors.

Job Title: Editorial Intern
Publication/Department: TravelAge West (a Northstar Travel Group publication)
Role Summary: The intern will join the TravelAge West team, focusing on travel and storytelling. The role offers the chance to have work published in print and online, learn from experienced journalists, and be part of a fast-paced, collaborative editorial environment. It involves assisting the editorial team with both print and digital projects, gaining hands-on experience in publishing, the travel industry, and professional content creation.
Key Responsibilities:
• Pitching and writing original stories for TravelAge West magazine and TravelAgeWest.com.
• Assisting with fact-checking and copy editing.
• Conducting interviews and background research.
• Helping produce e-newsletters and social media content.
• Contributing to Future Leaders in Travel event planning, research surveys, marketing materials, and more.
Learning Outcomes/Benefits for the Intern: By the end of the internship, interns are expected to have:
• Multiple published clips (print and digital) with their byline.
• Real-world editorial experience within a professional media workflow.
• Insight into how editorial, marketing, and events intersect within the travel industry.
• A network of professional contacts in travel journalism.
Required Qualifications/Skills (“Who You Are” & “What You Have – Required”):
• A college student (or recent graduate) working toward a degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field.
• Passionate about travel, hospitality, and storytelling.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work on multiple assignments at once.
• Strong writing and editing skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word.
• Understanding of deadlines and editorial workflows.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills (“What You Have – Preferred”):
• Familiarity with AP style or other editorial style guides.
• Experience with social media platforms in a professional or organizational setting.
• Basic knowledge of content management systems (e.g., WordPress).
• Photo editing skills (e.g., Canva, Photoshop).
• Experience working for a student publication, blog, or other media outlet.
Internship Details:
Type: Part-time
Duration: Approximately 12 weeks
Pay: $20 per hour
Location/Setup: Hybrid model, based in Los Angeles. Expectation of at least one day per week in the office, with remaining hours remote.
Schedule: Days and hours are flexible, based on intern availability and the editorial calendar.
Start Date: September 2025
