This is an Actuarial Financial Analysis and Modeling Intern position within the Corporate Actuarial Department, specifically supporting the Assumptions team. The intern will report to an Associate Actuary.

Role Overview:
The primary purpose of this role is to provide essential analysis and technical skills to support the strategic objectives of the Assumptions team. The intern will predominantly assist with various aspects of assumption setting and data analysis work.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Management & Analysis:
• Conduct comprehensive data manipulation, organization, and analysis.
• Collect, compile, and analyze policy-level data.
Reporting & Documentation:
• Assist with updating and improving various reports, spreadsheets, and documentation.
Actuarial Modeling & Assumptions:
• Contribute to attribution analysis of assumptions using Prophet Modeling software.
• Assist with the actuarial assumption setting process, ensuring strict compliance with the assumption governance framework.
• Assist with assumption documentation and maintaining the assumption inventory.
Collaboration:
• Develop strong working relationships by collaborating effectively with other departments and business units, including Valuation, Product Development, Planning, and Finance areas.

Location and Schedule:
The position offers flexibility, with options to be based out of offices in Topeka or Overland Park, Kansas, or Des Moines, Iowa. For the right candidate, a remote arrangement is also possible. The company operates on a hybrid schedule, allowing for both remote and on-site work flexibility.

Internship Commitment:
This is a continuous internship, not limited to summer. Students must be current, full-time students available to work 10 – 20 hours a week, beginning in Fall 2025. The intern is expected to work during and between semesters, including full-time over the summer.

Required Qualifications:

Academic Standing: Current, full-time college student at the sophomore to graduate level.
Majors: Studying Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Finance, or Computer Science.
Actuarial Pursuit: A demonstrated commitment to pursuing an actuarial credential, evidenced by preparation for Society of Actuaries-administered exams or existing exam credit, is preferred.
Technical Skills:
Required: Advanced Excel knowledge and skill, including proficiency with functions and macro creation, editing, and use.
Preferred: Demonstrated ability with Visual Basic (VB) coding, SQL, and/or R.
Soft Skills & Attributes:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong GPA in major and across all areas of study.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven organizational skills and the ability to consistently meet deadlines.
• High degree of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
