About the Job: Social Media & Communications Intern

This is a Social Media & Communications Intern position, available on a remote and flexible basis. The role is structured as a volunteer opportunity or for college credit, requiring a time commitment of 5–10 hours per week.

Role Summary:
Lipodystrophy United is seeking a passionate and creative individual to support its growing non-profit efforts. This internship offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the rare disease space while gaining practical experience in digital marketing, content creation, and online community engagement. The intern will report to the Operations Manager and collaborate closely to advance the organization’s mission and expand its digital presence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the development and implementation of the social media strategy.
Create and schedule engaging content, including graphics, posts, and stories, across various digital platforms.
Write compelling captions for social media content.
• Implement best practices for accessibility, such as using alt text and inclusive design principles.
Brainstorm new ideas to increase engagement and foster growth within the global community.
Monitor social media analytics and provide suggestions for improvement.

Preferred Skills:

• Possesses a sociable personality and enthusiasm for building rapport with community members.
• Demonstrates strong writing and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Canva or similar design tools.
• Understanding of social media accessibility practices.
• Capable of managing time independently and meeting deadlines effectively.
• Prior experience or coursework in communications, marketing, or related fields is preferred but not required.
• Ability to provide a portfolio or examples of previous social media or communications work, if available.
