Job Description: Intern Program (Civil Engineering / Building/Construction Sciences)

Program Term:
Fall 2025

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern’s responsibilities are designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the construction process, including:
• Gaining a fundamental understanding of the construction process, encompassing estimating, bidding, and actual construction phases.
• Working extensively with the submittal process, which involves:
• Maintaining appropriate logs.
• Reviewing submittals.
• Approving shop drawings and submittals.
• Preparing transmittals for the organized distribution of project documentation.
• Assisting with various aspects of project lifecycle, including jobsite setup, permits, and closeout.
• Actively participating in quantity take off and estimating tasks.

Required Skills and Qualities:
Successful candidates should possess:
Computer skills, particularly proficiency with spreadsheets.
Good communication skills.
• A strong willingness to handle responsibility.

Requirements:
To be eligible for this internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Be a student actively pursuing a four-year or advanced degree in one of the following fields: Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or Building Science.
• Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.
• Have completed their college freshman year.
• Possess a valid Driver’s License.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
The role requires the ability to perform essential functions in varied conditions:

Environment:
• Work is primarily performed in both indoor and outdoor settings.
• Exposure to all types of weather and temperature conditions.
• Requires travel from site to site.

Physical:
• Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting.
• Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
• Occasional need to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
• Capability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight.
• Ability to operate equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination.
• Requirement to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation.
• Ability to verbally communicate to exchange information effectively.

Vision:
• Ability to see in the normal visual range, with or without correction.

Hearing:
• Ability to hear in the normal audio range, with or without correction.
