Job Description: Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU (Intensive Care Unit)
This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients within the Intensive Care Unit. The RN is responsible for monitoring hemodynamic status, administering medications, performing assessments, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team. A key focus is ensuring optimal patient outcomes by adhering to clinical protocols and safety guidelines, while maintaining effective communication with patients and their families.
This position is part of the Flexible Solutions program, which is a temporary opportunity requiring a minimum commitment of 36 hours per week (typically 3-12-hour shifts) for a 12-week period. Employees in this program receive a specific Flexible Solutions Program rate of pay. The role may require the RN to float between units on assigned shifts, which could include being assigned tech (CNA), Monitor Tech, or charge nurse duties if needed to ensure adequate patient care. All floating and patient care assignments are consistently based on the RN’s skill set and experience. Rates and specific details may vary by facility.
Essential Functions:
• Direct and indirect patient care in a critical care setting, including hemodynamic monitoring and management of critically ill patients.
• Administration of medications, monitoring for side effects, and responding to adverse events.
• Comprehensive assessments, including head-to-toe, pain, and reassessments.
• Development and implementation of individualized care plans based on patient condition and response to treatment.
• Collaboration with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare providers to optimize patient care.
• Education of patients and families on treatment plans, medication regimens, and discharge instructions.
• Participation in emergency response and crisis management, including code blue and rapid response situations.
• Assistance in invasive procedures, such as central line insertions and arterial line placements.
• Adherence to infection control protocols and maintenance of a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities, assessments, and interventions in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations:
• Advanced clinical knowledge in critical care nursing and emergency response.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and effectively manage multiple responsibilities.
• Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and medical equipment operation.
• Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform extended periods of standing, walking, and physical activity.
Qualifications:
Education:
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
• Current RN license in the state of practice or compact state required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within timeframe specified by facility policy.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification within timeframe specified by facility policy.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification preferred.
• De-escalation Training required.
Experience:
• Minimum of six (6) months of experience in an acute care setting preferred.
