Job Description: Digital Media Intern (Remote) [Fall 2025]

This is an opportunity for a remote, unpaid internship with WKRG-TV / wkrg.com for the Fall 2025 semester. The program is VERY HIGHLY SELECTIVE, with only a few positions available.

Why Intern Remotely with WKRG-TV / wkrg.com?
Interns will receive coaching and mentorship from the WKRG Digital Content Team, gaining valuable experience that can strengthen their candidacy for full-time positions post-graduation.

Key Learning and Experience Areas:
• Writing and researching for a news website.
• Leveraging research, data, and metrics to optimize audience engagement.
• Social media content creation and marketing.
• Visual communication skills, including selecting and designing graphics for WKRG.com articles.
• Honing writing skills to craft compelling articles and scripts adhering to professional formats and AP style.
• Understanding and adapting to the fast-paced, deadline-driven nature of journalism.

Qualifications and Ideal Candidate Profile:
• Students majoring in journalism, social media, communication arts, digital marketing, or similar fields are encouraged to apply.
VERY STRONG WRITING SKILLS and being HIGHLY SELF-MOTIVATED are crucial for success in this role.
• Applicants should have engaged in some coursework or practical work in writing, ideally with a basic understanding of AP style and standards for text articles and broadcast scripts.
• Familiarity with meeting deadlines and the ability to work nimbly and with flexibility are essential.
• Students who must earn academic credit for the internship will receive priority consideration. Interns are responsible for obtaining and completing any necessary forms for credit.
• The intern is responsible for securing access to a computer and reliable internet connection for communication and timely filing of content.

Beneficial (but Not Required) Skills:
• Video Editing: Knowledge of timeline-based software like Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro.
• Video Acquisition: Ability to capture video, natural sound, and interviews using a phone or camera.

Internship Structure and Supervision:
• All internships are supervised. An intern’s station supervisor will oversee performance, evaluate progress, and ensure proper education/training.
• The intern’s college/university academic advisor determines the amount of academic credit available and weekly time commitment, which the station supervisor will consider when establishing a work schedule.

Application Period Closes: 5 pm CST, Thursday, September 4, 2025, or earlier if all slots are filled due to rolling acceptance.
Recommended Application Time: As early as possible in the Summer 2025 semester, ideally by August 14, 2025, for the best chance of interview and acceptance.
Internship Start Date: On or after Monday, August 4, 2025.
Internship End Date: On or before Friday, December 19, 2025.
Group Internship Orientation Session: August 2025 (Date/Time TBD via video conference call).
