About the Job: New Product Development Engineering Co-op

This position is for a New Product Development Engineering Co-op at Fortune Brands Innovations. The successful candidate will work alongside Product Engineers to support the entire New Product Development process, from initial ideation through to commercialization. This role specifically involves supporting product development for brands within the Fortune Brands Innovations portfolio, including Moen, Master Lock, Therma-Tru, Larson, Yale, and August, among others.

The co-op will be involved in various stages of product development, including material selection, analysis, and full design implementation. This is presented as an excellent opportunity to learn and apply problem-solving skills, work within cross-functional teams, and gain in-depth knowledge of the product engineering process.

This is a hybrid position requiring the co-op to report to the North Olmsted, OH location on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday weekly.

Key Responsibilities:

The New Product Development Engineering Co-op will be involved in a variety of tasks, including:

Assisting in the daily support of engineering operations within the assigned department.
Learning and understanding the engineering operations of the department.
Troubleshooting quality issues and implementing corrective actions.
Developing and implementing solutions for consumer quality issues.
Interfacing with various internal teams (Plant Engineering, Production, Quality, Planning) and external technical support vendors.
Identifying improvement opportunities, developing solutions, and reviewing them with a Senior Engineering Lead.
Conducting Design of Experiments (DOEs), creating reports from findings, and presenting data to stakeholders.
Running laboratory tests on product returns and designing necessary test fixtures.
Assisting with product reworks and organizing plant inspections.
Compiling, preparing, and presenting data for project updates and technical presentations to plant leadership and/or management.
Assisting in “50 first programs” for new product launches.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program focusing on mechanical engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., Solidworks or similar).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Must be a US citizen or Green Card holder.
• Must currently reside in the Cleveland, Ohio area and have transportation to commute to the North Olmsted, Ohio location for the hybrid work model.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to work a minimum of 2 semesters (40 hours per week preferred); Moen can accommodate up to 4 semesters.
• Knowledge of mechanical design concepts for plastic, metal, and composite materials.
• Exposure to Design of Experiments (DOEs) and Tolerance Stack-ups.
• A self-motivated problem solver who enjoys working in a “hands-on” environment.
Self-directed and motivated to complete projects.
• Ability to schedule and complete projects from start to finish.
