About the Job: Y Teen Social Engagement Intern (Stipend Paid Internship)

Annually, the YMCA of Metro Atlanta:

  • Provides high-quality literacy and STEAM-infused learning to over 3,000 children (ages 6 weeks through Pre-K).
  • Offers 58,000 youth and teens access to sports, aquatics, day and resident camps, teen leadership development programs, and employment opportunities.
  • Serves over 200,000 members with programs, services, and facilities for connection and wellness.
  • Engages over 25,000 volunteers and donors in supporting their communities.

Nature and Scope:
Under the guidance of the Director of Teen Programs, the Y Teen Social Engagement Intern is an integral part of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta’s Social Media Internship Program. This program specifically aims to amplify youth voice through dynamic digital storytelling. Interns will be responsible for creating compelling content that showcases teen-led events, leadership narratives, and wellness-focused programming. This grant-funded, stipend-paid internship is ideal for youth passionate about media, marketing, and communications.

Responsibilities (Including, But Not Limited To):

  • Attend teen programs and events to capture engaging content (photos, videos, quotes, interviews).
  • Create 3–4 high-quality social media posts per week, ensuring alignment with brand standards.
  • Draft compelling captions, relevant hashtags, and detailed content descriptions.
  • Actively collaborate with the intern team and participate in monthly editorial meetings.
  • Submit all created content to the Lead Intern for thorough review and feedback.
  • Support the growth of social media platforms through timely, engaging, and relevant content.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, YMCA members, volunteers, and the public.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in high school or an equivalent educational program.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
  • Possess reliable transportation to assigned locations for in-person events.
  • Demonstrated interest in digital media, social impact, and creative storytelling.
  • Willingness to attend programs/events and actively engage with peers and staff.
  • Strong project management skills: highly skilled at planning, organizing, and supporting multiple projects, establishing priorities, and meeting tight weekly deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and consistently uphold digital media ethics.
  • Successful completion of a State of Georgia criminal background check and a drug screen test.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong follow-through, and execution on compliances.
  • Strong computer proficiency with excellent command of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • High degree of human relation skills, including the ability to effectively communicate and manage information with peers, staff, and volunteers.
  • Exemplify YMCA ideals and leadership qualities.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Prior experience with social platforms and basic content creation applications is a plus.

Ergonomic Requirements:
This role operates in a normal internal office environment. The intern must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time as required during events and programs.
