Summary of the Opportunity:
HII Mission Technologies is actively seeking highly motivated undergraduate or graduate students to join our team as an Intern within the Warfare Systems business group. This exciting opportunity is designed for students pursuing degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics who are eager to make a tangible impact. Selected candidates will provide critical support for Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) studies and analyses for advanced Defense Systems.
Working alongside seasoned scientists and engineers, you will tackle real-world technical challenges that directly contribute to the U.S. Army’s mission. This position offers invaluable hands-on experience, supporting the U.S. Army Research Laboratory in Adelphi, Maryland.
What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities):
As an Intern, you will be deeply involved in cutting-edge defense technology. Your responsibilities will include:
- Research & Development: Participating in the research, design, development, and testing of advanced Radio Frequency (RF) systems.
- System Support: Contributing to the development of next-generation radar, spectrum sensing, and communications capabilities.
- Hands-On Testing: Conducting comprehensive testing and measurements of RF systems using industry-standard bench equipment, including spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and vector network analyzers.
- Field Operations: Actively participating in field-experiments and crucial data collection events.
- Data Analysis: Applying sophisticated signal processing techniques to extract key features and insights from collected data.
- Visualization: Developing dynamic data visualizations for live, real-time data streams to support analysis and decision-making.
What We Are Looking For (Minimum Requirements):
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- Academic Standing: High School Diploma or equivalent, *plus• active enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program with more than 60% of the required credits completed.
- Citizenship: U.S. citizenship is mandatory to access government facilities and projects.
- Background: A strong foundational background in engineering, science, experimentation, or research.
- Programming Skills: Basic to intermediate proficiency in at least one programming language.
- GPA: A minimum 3.50 GPA in your major.
Preferred Requirements (Bonus Skills & Experience):
Candidates with the following skills and experiences will be highly valued:
- Familiarity with Radar, spectrum sensing, and communication systems.
- Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing, Fourier theory, and complex analysis.
- Practical lab experience using RF test equipment (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, vector network analyzer, etc.).
- Experience with embedded system development (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi, FPGA).
- Proficiency with Software Defined Radio (e.g., Ettus, Adalm Pluto, RTL-SDR).
- Experience with Linux operating systems.
- Familiarity with AI/Machine Learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.
Physical Requirements:
Job performance will normally require only minor lifting and carrying of boxes of records or equipment.
