Job Summary:
As a Warehouse Chemical Technician / Receiving Chemist I Intern, you will play a crucial role within our Bartow, FL facility. This hands-on internship focuses on the critical initial stages of waste management: receiving, sampling, and preparing waste drums for proper disposal or processing. You will work directly in the facility warehouse, gaining practical experience in hazardous waste handling, safety protocols, and quality control, contributing directly to our environmental mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety First: Consistently ensure that Health and Safety is the number one priority by strictly complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes, and always acting in a safe and responsible manner. This includes maintaining a safe working environment that complies with all applicable OSHA regulations and company Health & Safety and Compliance protocols.
- Waste Receiving & Verification: Accurately receive all incoming containers, meticulously verifying counts, sizes, and types of received loads against manifests and documentation.
- Waste Coding & Routing: Properly code all waste for disposal processing, ensuring all drums are accurately coded for routing, billing, and assigned the correct disposal process and/or outbound profile according to established protocols.
- Chemical Sampling & Basic Analysis: Skillfully sample all incoming drums, performing basic analysis of samples following prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs) to identify waste characteristics.
- Battery Consolidation: Sort through various battery types, specifically consolidating all alkaline batteries for efficient and compliant disposal.
- Warehouse Movement & Storage: Safely move drums from the staging area to their proper designated storage locations within the facility, utilizing appropriate equipment.
- Documentation & Quality Assurance: Complete all associated paperwork thoroughly and accurately, ensuring that all work meets applicable Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) guidelines for traceability and compliance.
Qualifications:
We are seeking enthusiastic and safety-conscious individuals ready to gain valuable experience in the environmental services industry. To be considered for this internship, you should possess:
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Age Requirement: Must be 18 years or older.
- Experience: 1+ years of related experience. This could include experience in a warehouse environment, laboratory setting, industrial environment, or any role involving material handling, chemical exposure, or adherence to strict safety protocols.
- Forklift Experience: Forklift operation experience is preferred but not strictly required. Training may be provided for the right candidate.
- Computer Proficiency: Ability to use a computer for data entry, record-keeping, and accessing information.
- Physical Aptitude: Ability to lift 50 or more pounds regularly, demonstrating the physical capability to handle drums and materials.
- Attributes: Strong attention to detail, commitment to safety, ability to follow precise instructions, and a proactive attitude are essential.
