The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is a non-profit, bipartisan public policy organization established in 1962. The CSIS Wadhwani AI Center is a specialized center within CSIS. Its focus is to investigate and answer crucial questions about the future of Artificial Intelligence and its profound implications for the global economy and international security. The Center produces research, analysis, and recommendations with the aim of equipping policymakers, government officials, and the public with a comprehensive understanding of rapidly evolving emerging technology ecosystems and their impacts on economic, geopolitical, and security landscapes.
About the Job: Wadhwani AI Center Intern
This is a seasonal internship position with the CSIS Wadhwani AI Center, offered for a six-month duration during the fall and winter semesters. The role is designed for a motivated individual with a demonstrated interest in the future of emerging technologies.
Key Details:
• Position Type: Internship
• Duration: 6 months (seasonal, Fall and Winter semesters)
• Work Schedule: Full-time, 35 hours per week
• Location: In-person at CSIS headquarters in Washington, DC
• Compensation: Paid hourly, commensurate with educational attainment:
• $18.00/hour for current undergraduate hires
• $19.00/hour for hires with a bachelor’s degree
• $20.00/hour for hires with a master’s degree
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will work closely with the Wadhwani Center team members and their responsibilities will include:
• Providing research support for individual scholars and projects, specifically related to AI, emerging technology regulation, industrial policy, national security, and geopolitics.
• Monitoring ongoing developments in emerging technology policy and industry sectors.
• Offering logistical support to the Center staff as required, which encompasses scheduling, event staffing, and general routine office tasks.
• Supporting communications activities, including managing social media, contributing to the program newsletter, and assisting with the program podcast.
• Attending various events and lectures hosted by CSIS and external organizations.
Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Education, and Experience):
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Be eligible to work in the United States.
• Be at least a college junior in good standing, an advanced student, or a recent graduate.
• Applicants enrolled in or having recently completed a master’s degree are preferred.
• Must be able to work in-person at CSIS headquarters in Washington, DC.
• Commit to the full 6-month internship duration.
• Ability to commit to 35 hours per week.
• Possess excellent research skills.
• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Be capable of completing projects both independently and collaboratively with a team.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications (Plus):
• Foreign language proficiency.
• Technical computer skills.
