About SOFWERX

SOFWERX is a unique venue operated under an agreement between the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and DefenseWERX. Its primary mission is to increase collaboration and innovation to solve the most difficult challenges faced by warfighters. SOFWERX serves as a forum to accelerate the delivery of innovative capabilities and facilitate their refinement through exploration, experimentation, and assessment of promising technologies. About the Internship Program

This internship program is administered by the USF Institute of Applied Engineering (IAE). Upon hire, successful candidates will be considered both a USF IAE Temporary Employee and a SOFWERX student intern.

Responsibilities

As a Videography Intern, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Capture high-quality video footage of events, experiments, demonstrations, and interviews to expand the SOFWERX ecosystem.
  • Edit and produce professional video content for various internal and external communication channels, including social media, presentations, and promotional materials.
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop compelling visual storytelling concepts that effectively communicate technical and operational goals.
  • Manage and organize media assets, ensuring consistent file naming, tagging, and archiving practices.
  • Assist with lighting, sound, and camera setup for both studio and field shoots.
  • Support post-production efforts, which may include color correction, motion graphics, captions, and sound mixing.
  • Create shorts, reels, and visual recaps specifically for outreach and engagement purposes.
  • Participate in weekly market research and submit minimum required entries for new capabilities, technologies, companies, or organizations that could contribute innovative ideas and solutions for the warfighter.

Time Commitment

  • Hours of operation: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Fall/Spring Semesters: A minimum of 15 hours and a maximum of 20 hours per week.
  • Summer Semester: A minimum of 20 hours and a maximum of 29 hours per week.
  • This position is in-person with limited remote work opportunities.

Pay Rate

The pay rate for this internship is $17.00/hour.

Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • MUST BE ELIGIBLE FOR A SECURITY CLEARANCE.
  • Must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited local University.
  • Must be at a Junior or Senior level, with a current GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Demonstrated experience in videography, cinematography, or multimedia production.
  • Strong technical understanding of camera operation, lighting, and audio recording.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with meticulous attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
  • Excellent storytelling, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must participate in weekly market research and submit minimum required entries for new capabilities, technologies, companies, or organizations that could contribute innovative ideas and solutions for the warfighter.
