Veterinary Technician Assistant – Entry Level

Ocean State Veterinary Specialists (OSVS) is seeking enthusiastic entry-level Veterinary Technician Assistants to join our team! This role offers a unique opportunity to begin your career in veterinary medicine within a leading specialty and emergency hospital.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Ideal Candidates: This position is perfect for individuals considering a career in veterinary medicine, including pre-vet or vet tech students, those exploring the veterinary nursing profession, or anyone passionate about working with animals.
  • No Direct Patient Care (Initially): While this entry-level role does not involve direct patient care, you will gain invaluable experience in hospital operations, rigorous cleaning protocols, and foundational emergency concepts.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties)

  • Hospital Cleanliness & Organization:
    • Clean, disinfect, and organize patient areas, exam rooms, food prep areas, and various equipment.
    • Manage laundry, including patient bedding and surgical linens, ensuring a sterile and comfortable environment.
  • Supply Management:
    • Restock medical and surgical supplies efficiently to support continuous operations.
    • Maintain indoor and outdoor patient areas, ensuring they are tidy and safe.
  • Team Support:
    • Actively assist team members by gathering necessary supplies for patient care, diagnostics, and procedures, contributing to smooth workflows.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Ensure strict OSHA compliance in labeling and waste disposal protocols, prioritizing safety for all.
    • Perform morgue duties as needed, adhering to established protocols with respect and professionalism.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • A degree in Animal Science or an Animal Care certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift, drag, or pull up to 35 lbs.
    • Ability to remain on feet for most of the shift, demonstrating stamina and physical readiness for the demands of a dynamic hospital environment.
  • Professional Skills:
    • A professional, dependable, and respectful communicator with colleagues, clients, and referring veterinarians.
    • Strong ability to follow instructions, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced setting.

Work Schedule

  • This position includes some evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, reflecting the 24/7 nature of emergency veterinary care.
