Job Title: Veterinary Student Externship Experience

Overview:

This externship offers a unique opportunity for veterinary students to immerse themselves in the day-to-day operations of an NVA hospital. Participants will gain invaluable hands-on clinical experience within a supportive environment that prioritizes excellent medicine and provides exceptional service to animals and their owners.

Key Learning & Responsibilities:

Externs will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to develop and refine critical skills, including:

• Patient History Gathering: Learning to effectively collect comprehensive patient information.
• Physical Exams: Mastering the techniques for thorough physical examinations.
• Treatment Plan Creation: Participating in the development of effective treatment strategies.
• Diagnostics: Gaining exposure to and understanding of various diagnostic procedures.
• Dentistry Services: Observing and potentially assisting with dental procedures.
• Surgical Procedures: Opportunities to observe, assist with, or potentially perform surgical procedures based on skill level and supervision.
• Medical Management: Learning the principles and practices of ongoing patient care and medical management.
• Communication Skills: Practicing effective communication with the medical team, support staff, and clients, fostering professional interaction in a clinical setting.

Duration:

Most externship experiences typically range from two to eight weeks, with flexibility based on both student availability and hospital schedules.

Eligibility:

All veterinary students, regardless of their current class year, are strongly encouraged to participate in NVA externships at The Animal Center of Zachary.

Stipend & Benefits:
