Job Description:
This is a Veterinary Student Externship designed for 3rd and 4th year students enrolled in a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. The primary goal is to provide hands-on learning through practical experience in an urgent care setting. Externships are typically 2-week blocks at UrgentVet – Overland Park. The company emphasizes that students with an open mind and a willingness to learn will benefit most from the program.
Key responsibilities include:
• Providing inpatient and outpatient medical care under the direct supervision of veterinary staff.
• Performing in-house diagnostic tests with competence, including hematology, chemistry, and radiology.
• Providing routine client education.
• Assisting in surgical procedures.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise:
• Participants must be currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program.
