Job Description
This is an externship experience designed for clinical-year veterinary students.
Purpose:
• To understand the day-to-day operations of a veterinary practice.
• To gain valuable hands-on clinical experience.
Key Responsibilities & Skills Gained:
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in:
• Gathering patient histories.
• Performing physical exams.
• Creation of treatment plans.
• Diagnostics.
• Dentistry services.
• Observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures.
• Medical management of patients.
• Practicing clinical skills.
• Practicing communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Duration:
• Most externship experiences at East State Veterinary Clinic range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.
Eligibility & Compensation:
• Designed for clinical-year veterinary students.
• Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
