About the Company:
East End Veterinary Medical Centre is a growing multi-doctor, small animal practice located in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The clinic boasts a veterinary acupuncturist who works on-site once a week. They perform a high volume of dental procedures, offer same-day urgent care appointments, and perform surgeries 5 days a week.
Job Description:
This externship is designed for 4th year veterinary students to gain comprehensive, hands-on experience in a busy small animal practice. As an extern, you will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to develop and refine your skills in various aspects of veterinary medicine, including:
• Patient History: Gathering thorough and accurate patient histories from clients.
• Physical Exams: Performing comprehensive physical examinations on animals.
• Treatment Plans: Assisting in the creation of appropriate treatment plans based on patient diagnoses.
• Diagnostics: Participating in a range of diagnostic procedures.
• Dentistry Services: Assisting with and gaining experience in dental procedures.
• Surgical Procedures: Observing, assisting with, and potentially performing surgical procedures.
• Medical Management: Participating in the medical management of a variety of patient cases.
In addition to building your clinical expertise, this externship offers opportunities to:
• Communication Skills: Practice and refine your communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship Details:
• Duration: Typically ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.
• Eligibility: Open to 4th year veterinary students only.
