Job description

This externship provides veterinary students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience and understand the daily operations of an NVA hospital, specifically Elmwood Grove Animal Hospital.

Key Responsibilities and Learning Opportunities:
Clinical Skills: Students will work closely with a supervising Associate Veterinarian to develop and practice a wide range of clinical skills, including:
• Gathering patient histories.
• Performing physical exams.
• Creating treatment plans.
• Utilizing diagnostic tools and procedures.
• Assisting with or performing dentistry services.
• Observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures.
• Managing patient medical care.
Communication Skills: Externs will have the chance to practice and refine their communication abilities with the entire medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externship Details:
Duration: Most externship experiences at Elmwood Grove Animal Hospital typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on both student availability and hospital scheduling.
Eligibility: All veterinary students, regardless of their current class year, are encouraged to apply and participate in NVA externships.
Stipend: Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The specific stipend amount for Elmwood Grove Animal Hospital is $1,500.
