Job Description:
This is an externship designed to provide veterinary students with a comprehensive understanding of a veterinary practice’s daily operations and valuable hands-on clinical experience. The externship at Brookfield Veterinary Hospital offers the following opportunities:
• Clinical Skills Development: Work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to:
• Gather patient histories
• Perform physical exams
• Create treatment plans
• Conduct diagnostic procedures
• Participate in dentistry services
• Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures
• Provide medical management of patients
• Communication Skills Enhancement: Practice communication skills with:
• Medical team members
• Support staff
• Clients
• Duration: Externship experiences typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.
• Eligibility: All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to apply.
• Stipend: Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for Brookfield Veterinary Hospital is $1,500.
