Job Description
About the job:
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students a unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of a veterinary practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to exceptional service for animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with a supervising veterinarian to gain experience in:
• Gathering patient histories
• Performing physical exams
• Creating treatment plans
• Diagnostics
• Dentistry services
• Observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures
• Medical management of patients
In addition to clinical skill development, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship experiences at Animal House Veterinary Clinic typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on the student and hospital’s schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of their year of study, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Check [HERE](link – fake) to view a list of stipend amounts and [HERE](link – fake) for details on the stipend program.
