Key Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities:

As an extern, you will work closely and collaboratively with dedicated supervising Associate Veterinarians, gaining practical experience and refining your skills across a comprehensive range of veterinary disciplines. Your responsibilities and learning will include:

  • Patient Management: Actively participate in gathering detailed patient histories and performing thorough physical examinations.
  • Treatment Planning: Contribute to the creation of comprehensive treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Diagnostics: Gain exposure to and experience with various diagnostic procedures.
  • Specialized Services: Observe and assist in dentistry services.
  • Surgical Procedures: Have the opportunity to observe, assist in, or potentially perform surgical procedures, depending on your skill level and hospital guidelines.
  • Medical Management: Engage in the ongoing medical management of patients, following cases from diagnosis through recovery.

Stipend & Benefits:

NVA recognizes the commitment required for clinical education. Veterinary students who are currently in the clinical portion of their education are eligible to receive a travel/living expense stipend to support their externship experience.
