Job Description:

An externship at an NVA hospital offers veterinary students a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain valuable, hands-on clinical experience.

Responsibilities:

Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in the following areas:

• Gathering patient histories
• Performing physical exams
• Creation of treatment plans
• Diagnostics
• Dentistry services
• Observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures
• Medical management of patients

In addition to clinical skill development, student externs will also have the opportunity to:

• Practice communication skills with the medical team
• Practice communication skills with the support staff
• Practice communication skills with the clients

Externship Details:

• Externship experiences at Conejo Valley Veterinary Hospital typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on the student and hospital schedules.
• All veterinary students, regardless of their year in the program, are encouraged to participate.
• Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
