Job Description: User Research Intern (Summer 2025)
This internship offers the opportunity to work within a small, collaborative team, mentored by a senior user researcher. The intern will be involved in various aspects of the research process, including:
• Project Definition & Direction: Working closely with a mentor and user research leadership to define project specifics and contribute to the overall direction of their assigned product area.
• Collaboration & Research Approach: Collaborating with design, engineering, and product management teams to identify key research questions and develop the most effective research methodologies to address them.
• Conducting Actionable Research: Carrying out research to inform product team decision-making and the design process. This involves collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and synthesizing data and effectively communicating findings.
• Feedback & Iteration: Actively seeking and incorporating feedback on their work from the mentor, other researchers, and cross-functional team members.
Requirements:
• Graduation Date: Must be graduating December 2025 or later.
• Portfolio: A strong portfolio demonstrating methodological proficiency and experience across all phases of the research process (data collection, cleaning and analysis, synthesis, documentation, and sharing findings).
• Learning & Self-Awareness: A commitment to continuous learning, self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses, and a proactive approach to skill development.
• Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively within diverse teams in dynamic environments to explore and answer research questions.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a passion for conveying research findings clearly and engagingly.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Advanced Degree: Preference given to applicants nearing completion of a Master’s or Ph.D. in HCI, sociology, psychology, communication, information science, or a related field with an applied research component.
• Technology/Business Experience: Prior experience (internship or otherwise) within a technology company or business setting is advantageous.
• Relevant Research Experience: Experience researching generative AI, computer-supported collaboration, or knowledge workers is a plus.
• Mixed-Methods Skills: Ability to translate qualitative findings into design artifacts, experience with mixed methods (qualitative interviews and surveys with statistical analysis), and/or experience utilizing remote research tools (Qualtrics, UserTesting, etc.).
