Job Description: User Research Intern (Summer 2025)

This internship offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative team, mentored by a senior user researcher. The intern will participate in various company events, including executive speaker series, AMAs (Ask Me Anything sessions), volunteer time off, workshops, and social gatherings. Access to Slack’s seven Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) is also provided.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Definition & Contribution: Work closely with the mentor and user research leadership to define project details and contribute to the overall direction of the product area.
Collaboration & Research Approach: Collaborate with design, engineering, and product management teams to identify key research questions and develop effective research methodologies to address them.
Actionable Research & Guidance: Conduct impactful research to inform product team decision-making and the design process.
Feedback Incorporation: Actively solicit and integrate feedback from the mentor, other researchers, and cross-functional team members.

Qualifications:

Graduation Date: Must be graduating December 2025 or later.
Portfolio: A strong portfolio demonstrating methodological expertise across all stages of the research process (data collection, cleaning and analysis, synthesis, documentation, and sharing findings).
Learning & Self-Awareness: A commitment to continuous learning, self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses, and a desire for skill improvement.
Teamwork: Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams in dynamic environments to investigate and answer research questions.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a passion for conveying research findings clearly and engagingly.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced Degree: Applicants nearing completion of a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Sociology, Psychology, Communication, Information Science, or a related field with an applied research component are preferred.
Technology/Business Experience: Prior experience working (internship or otherwise) in a technology company or business environment.
Relevant Research Experience: Experience researching generative AI, computer-supported collaboration, or knowledge workers.
Mixed-Methods & Tool Proficiency: Ability to translate qualitative findings into frameworks or design artifacts; a mixed-methods background (qualitative interviews and surveys with related statistics); and/or experience with remote research tools (e.g., Qualtrics, UserTesting).
