The co-op and intern program offered by Traylor Bros. provides eligible college students with an opportunity to gain relevant work experience by alternating sessions of work and school. Participants will be exposed to diverse work groups and gain invaluable leadership experience by working in various locations throughout the U.S. If relocation is required for the internship, Traylor Bros. will cover the costs. Interns may be assigned to any of the company’s active projects or offices nationwide. This is a full-time opportunity, requiring 40+ hours per week, and can be structured as either an internship or co-op position depending on the student’s university requirements. The opportunity is expected to last from approximately September to December 2024, though start and end dates can be flexible. The position is designed to provide hands-on experience and training, covering both technical and administrative duties, to help students become effective, well-rounded Civil Construction Engineers.

This specific opportunity is for Underground Interns for Fall 2024, with open positions in California (CA), Texas (TX), and Virginia (VA). It is explicitly stated that this is an in-person, onsite at a job site internship and is not remote.

Typical responsibilities for this role involve applying critical engineering and management thinking across various aspects of civil construction. These include, but are not limited to: estimating, design, scheduling, compliance review, procurement, surveying, production tracking, change order preparation, material testing and analysis, and cost report management. The company is seeking professionals who are strongly committed to safety, quality, and productivity.

Specific Responsibilities Include:
• Applying critical engineering and management thinking to various tasks.
• Assisting in the development and implementation of safety plans.
• Conducting site audits and performing material testing and analysis.
• Performing inventory checks, daily field engineering tests, and cost analyses.
• Completing change order preparations and production tracking.
• Assisting with drawings (method/field), estimating, scheduling, and surveying.
• Supporting procurement activities and quality assurance reviews.
• Maintaining files and records, including copying and scanning documents.
• Processing charts/graphs, designs, and proposals.
• Assuming additional responsibilities as directed by supervisors.

Skills & Qualifications Required:
• Candidates must be currently enrolled in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering & Management, or another related program at the time of their internship.
• Applicants must have completed their sophomore year of study.
• Candidates should possess leadership potential.
• Must demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities.
• Must be capable of making decisions effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• AutoCAD experience is preferred, though not strictly required.

Physical Requirements:
The role requires various physical demands due to its onsite nature:
Regularly: Use hands and fingers for handling, feeling objects, tools, or manipulating controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
Frequently: Stand, walk, and sit.
Occasionally: Climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Occasionally: Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Vision: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:
• The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and construction equipment.
• The role may involve working in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions.
• The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. In such situations, the employee must utilize proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and/or other safeguards for their protection.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
