Job Description: Undergraduate Research Assistant

This is a part-time, temporary position for an Undergraduate Research Assistant within foundry10’s Career-Connected Learning and Life Skills (CCLLS) team.

Summary of Role:
Focus: The CCLLS team investigates career-connected learning, encompassing areas like Career and Technical Education (CTE), work-based learning opportunities, and the youth job market, both in and out of school.
Responsibilities: The Research Assistant will provide hands-on support to one or more research projects. This includes primary involvement in the preliminary stages of research development (literature review, drafting IRB proposals, developing recruitment plans, drafting data collection protocols and instruments).
Additional Duties (as needed): Support for data analysis tasks such as data management and preparation (e.g., data entry, data cleaning), data analysis (e.g., descriptive statistical analysis, qualitative coding), and sharing results through written reports and other mediums. Exact responsibilities will vary by project.
Schedule & Duration: Variable hours, 10-15 hours per week, with an anticipated start in late October and an end date of July 2026.
Compensation: The position offers a rate of $30/hr.
Professional Development: Provides opportunities for professional growth through direct research experience on a cross-functional team.
Location: Predominantly remote, but requires in-person work. Candidates must live in Washington state.

Specific Responsibilities (May Include):
Research Conception and Implementation Support:
• Conducting research background and literature reviews.
• Assisting with IRB (Institutional Review Board) writing.
• Helping with data collection planning.
• Designing recruitment plans for engaging student participants.
Coordinating with school administrators, teachers, and parents for consent and scheduling data collection.
• Designing surveys and other research tools.
Analysis Portion Support:
Data management and preparation (e.g., data entry, data cleaning).
Data analysis (e.g., descriptive statistical analysis, qualitative coding).
Sharing results through written reports and other relevant mediums.
General Project Participation:
• Attending project team meetings.
• Using project management software to track tasks and schedules.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:
Required Experience:
• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in a related program (i.e., a major related to education or social sciences).
• Overall familiarity with the research process.
• Competence with Google Suite.
• Ability to organize and prioritize competing tasks.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in a hybrid team environment.
Preferred Experience:
• Previous experience working on the research process in any form (e.g., curriculum-related project, working in a faculty member’s lab).
• Experience with synthesizing information from literature reviews.
• Experience with children and/or youth, preferably in a research or education setting.
• Demonstrated ability to professionally engage with diverse groups (e.g., parents, teachers, school administrators) through various communication channels (email, phone, in-person).
• Experience with work-based learning experiences such as internships/apprenticeships, job shadowing, mentorship programs, etc.

Other Requirements:
• Ability to maintain a consistent work schedule of 10-15 hours per week from Monday through Thursday. Some flexibility is possible, but a relatively stable schedule is preferred.
