Job Description: Undergraduate Intern – Mayor’s International Community Awards (MICA)

The Economic Development Department is seeking an undergraduate intern to assist in the planning and execution of the Mayor’s International Community Awards (MICA). This event recognizes foreign-owned firms in the Charlotte region for their philanthropic contributions and individuals/organizations that have supported Charlotte’s international community.

This in-person internship offers experience in international relations, economic development, and municipal government. The intern will work through the end of June, including the event evening itself. The position reports to the International Business Manager and Chief of Protocol.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

General office administration: Performing standard administrative tasks.
Relationship building: Networking with City employees, officials, and the international business community.
Follow-up: Contacting companies regarding sponsorships, tickets, and nominations.
Community outreach: Promoting event attendance within the diverse Charlotte population.
Database maintenance: Updating and maintaining MICA invitation databases.
Event management and execution: Active participation in all aspects of event planning and execution.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong organizational and research skills
Strong communication skills and ability to multi-task
Problem-solving and independent work abilities
Interest in and commitment to international relations and cooperation
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
Experience with social media (Twitter, LinkedIn)
Event planning experience (desirable)
Knowledge of a second language (desirable)

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
• Major coursework in a related field (International Business, International Relations, Communications preferred).
• Internship is for students graduating with a 4-year degree.
