About The Metropolitan District (MDC):
The Metropolitan District (MDC) is a non-profit municipal corporation, originally chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1929. Its core mission is to provide essential potable water and sewerage services on a regional basis. Today, the MDC proudly serves eight member municipalities – Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield, and Windsor – along with portions of other towns in the greater region. Beyond water and wastewater services, the MDC also contributes through mapping initiatives and household hazardous waste collection programs, demonstrating its commitment to public utility and environmental responsibility.

Program Duration: June 1, 2026 – July 31, 2026

Work Schedule: 37.50 hours/week

Key Responsibilities (Duties):

  • SAP System Engagement: Proactively gain a functional understanding of SAP software, primarily through self-guided research and practical application.
  • Customer Outreach: Potentially engage in direct customer communication by making calls to clarify or gather miscellaneous account information.
  • Account Reconciliation: Conduct thorough research into open credit balances to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Payment Verification: Investigate assessment accounts to confirm and track incoming payments.
  • Legal Support: Provide assistance in compiling and organizing necessary information for the submission of accounts to external attorneys, supporting collection or legal processes.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Pursuit: Currently enrolled as a college student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.), or Associate’s degree in either Accounting or Finance.
  • Academic Preference: Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully completed “Principles of Accounting” or equivalent foundational coursework in accounting.
  • Computer Proficiency: Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
