Description: Transportation Planning Intern

AECOM is seeking a Transportation Planning Intern for their Dallas, Texas office, starting in May 2025. This internship focuses on providing hands-on experience to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice. While primarily working with the Transit-Rail team, the role offers broad learning opportunities across various transit planning areas.

Responsibilities:

• Supporting planning studies and reports for new and updated plans and programs.
• Collecting and reporting statistical data (census information, land use, roadway networks, crash records, asset inventories).
• Contributing to equitable public outreach, including material and presentation preparation.
• Analyzing data and creating detailed maps for reports and thematic maps.
• Conducting concept-level evaluations of transit/transportation improvement options.
• Documenting and presenting findings on transit/transportation planning projects.
• Researching current transportation topics at local, state, and federal levels.
• Assisting senior staff and Project Managers with other assigned duties.

The internship involves planning and project development activities under the supervision of senior staff, potentially encompassing light rail, commuter rail, high-speed rail, bus rapid transit, microtransit, and other transit-supportive studies.

Currently pursuings:

Minimum Requirements: Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Planning, Political Science, GIS, Data Analytics, or Urban Studies. Must have completed at least two years of study and have coursework or work experience in transportation. Recent graduates with a bachelor’s degree and plans for a master’s degree are also eligible.
Preferred Currently pursuings: Currently pursuing a master’s degree in urban planning, transportation planning, or city and regional planning (with an undergraduate degree in a relevant field). Previous internship experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
