About Company

SWD Inc. is a recognized leader in the Metal Finishing and Fastener Sorting fields, established in March 1980. Initially starting with three employees in a 9,000 sq. ft. leased facility, the company began operations with black oxiding, cleaning, and pickling. By late 1980, they expanded to include passivating stainless steel, and in 1981, they acquired Fastener Sorting Corporation.

Today, SWD Inc. operates a 250,000 sq. ft. facility just west of Chicago in Addison, Illinois, employing over 200 individuals across three shifts per day. Job Description: Winter/Spring Semester Training & Development Intern

SWD Inc. is seeking a Training & Development Intern for the Winter/Spring semester, based 100% on-site in Addison, IL.

What They’re Seeking:
• Current students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business (including Human Resources), Psychology, or Adult Education.
• Individuals with an interest in lean manufacturing and process improvement.
• Candidates must be able to commute to the facility in Addison, IL.
• This is a PAID internship at $18.00 per hour.

Internship Details:
• The internship primarily spans the Winter/Spring semester (August-December), but flexibility is offered regarding starting and ending dates based on the intern’s academic schedule.
Hours are flexible, ranging between 15-30 hours per week, Monday through Friday, accommodating classes and homework.
• The intern will work directly with the Training Coordinator to enhance their knowledge and skills in training and employee development.

Responsibilities/Duties:
The intern will be involved in a wide range of tasks aimed at supporting and improving the company’s training and development initiatives:
• Assisting with administrative training tasks.
Coordinating and assisting with scheduling and preparation for new hire and existing in-class trainings.
• Assisting with the Instructional Design of both in-class and Learning Management System (LMS) trainings.
Converting various materials such as work instructions, assessments, and other content into digital formats using Microsoft SWAY, Forms, and PowerPoint.
Creating and distributing “Training Topic of the Month” and toolbox talk flyers.
Translating trainings and work instructions into Spanish, if applicable.
Conducting Training Orientation for new hires.
Developing diverse training materials to aid learning, including quick reference cards, charts, matrices, pictures, and diagrams.
Conducting Learning Styles Assessments.
Reporting on skills evaluation scores and competency skills.
Creating surveys and polls.
Researching new learning opportunities that align with the company’s core performance goals.
Participating in Wellness Committee activities and projects.

Bilingual speaking is a huge plus!
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Understanding of PC operating systems.
