Job Description: Traffic/Transportation Intern or Co-op

Langan is seeking a Traffic/Transportation Intern or Co-op to join their team in either Chicago, IL or Cleveland, OH.

This role serves a key function in assisting with Traffic/Transportation project work. The individual will gain exposure to a variety of project types, including:
Transportation impact studies
Parking studies
Traffic event management for large stadiums
Transportation master planning
Traffic signal design
Highway Occupancy Permit (HOP) plans & designs

Assignments for this position may involve:
Field work
Technical report preparation and calculations
Preparation of figures & other graphics
Data collection
Assistance to the Site/Civil group as needed

Key Job Responsibilities include:
• Performing traffic observation.
• Preparing technical reports, calculations, design plans and specifications for various traffic/transportation projects (e.g., transportation impact studies, highway occupancy permits, traffic signals, traffic and pedestrian circulation, and transportation master plans).
• Observing construction.
• Performing other duties as requested.

Qualifications:
• Must be a student actively pursuing a four-year or advanced degree in Civil or Traffic Engineering / Transportation Planning.
• A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater is preferred.
Familiarity with HCS, SYNCHRO, and the MUTCD is highly desirable.
Knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or SoftDesk civil software are a plus.
• Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities.
• Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
• Must have reliable transportation to access job sites and a valid driver’s license in good standing.

Compensation and Benefits for Intern/Co-op:
The estimated hourly range for this role is $20 – $27 per hour. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications, and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills.
Certain roles may be eligible for overtime and participation in the firm’s annual bonus and performance review program (bonuses are discretionary based on individual job performance and firm profitability).
Employees are also eligible to receive up to 20 days of paid vacation time, 10 days of paid sick time, and 10 paid holidays throughout the year. Eligibility and actual paid time off may vary based on local law and factors such as hours worked, related work experience, and level.
