Job Description
• Job Title: Traction Power Intern
• Company: AECOM
• Location: Philadelphia, PA (On-Site)
• Start Date: May 2025 (Expected)
• Overview: This internship provides hands-on experience in the design and analysis of DC or AC traction power systems for railways, light rail transit (LRT), or other electrified transportation networks. The intern will work with experienced engineers on real-world projects.
• Responsibilities:
• Assist in the design and analysis of traction power distribution systems (substations, overhead catenary systems (OCS), third rail systems).
• Support the development of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment layouts.
• Perform calculations related to voltage drop, current flow, and power system performance.
• Assist in the preparation of technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
• Conduct field inspections and site visits.
• Assist in the testing and commissioning of traction power equipment.
• Support the maintenance and troubleshooting of existing traction power systems.
• Assist in the preparation of as-built drawings and documentation.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Qualifications:
• Minimum:
• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and have completed at least one year of study, OR
• Have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with plans to continue with a Master’s degree
• Preferred:
• Basic understanding of electrical power systems and circuit analysis.
• Familiarity with AC and DC power concepts.
• Strong interest in railway or transit systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver’s license (may be required for site visits).
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting software is a plus.
