This position is an internship designed for individuals seeking career development and first-hand experience in the tourism industry, particularly in promoting a city as a tourism destination.

Key Information:
Work Schedule: Approximately 15 hours per week, Monday – Friday.
Duration: September – December, with a potential extension into 2026.
Hourly Rate: $16.39 per hour.

Core Responsibilities and Duties:
Research & Reporting: Conduct studies, perform research, collect data, and prepare reports on various departmental activities and special projects.
Website Management: Assist in managing the Discover Wauwatosa website, focusing on both content and functionality.
Customer Service: Receive, direct, and help resolve inquiries from citizens and visitors.
Document Review: Review and edit departmental reports.
Learning & Development: Observe experienced workers to acquire knowledge of required methods, procedures, and performance standards.
Administrative Support: Complete other administrative duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Education: Must be currently enrolled in an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program in tourism, public administration, marketing, or a related field.
Experience: Prior customer service work experience is preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
• A valid Driver’s License is required.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Qualifications:
Career Interest: A strong interest in a career within the tourism industry and local government.
Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication abilities are essential.
Interpersonal Skills: Required customer service and interpersonal skills.
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Technical Experience: Prior experience with PowerPoint, website content management software, and database software is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
The role frequently involves sitting, twisting, and reaching, as well as using hands for tasks like fingering, handling, or feeling. Regular requirements include talking and hearing (in person, meetings, telephone) and interacting with various stakeholders (city management, employees, government officials, contractors, vendors, the public). The ability to read, interpret data, analyze, and solve problems is crucial. Occasionally, the position may require standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities needed are close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to safely lift and carry up to 10 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment:
The typical work environment is a standard office setting, which is generally quiet. However, specific activities, research, or assignments may require work at or in other locations within the City of Wauwatosa.
