Tooling Engineer | Radiant
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Radiant, located in El Segundo, CA. Radiant is focused on the mass production, fueling, and refueling of Kaleidos microreactor systems within a new factory setting. This Tooling Engineer role is pivotal for the early development of critical production tooling required for these operations. You will directly contribute to building and assembling advanced microreactor systems by developing and innovating custom tooling, working in close collaboration with both design and manufacturing teams.
The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Full-time
• Location: In-person, El Segundo, CA
• Pay: $95000–$105000 yearly
• Mission: Own the development and innovation of custom production tooling essential for the building, assembly, fueling, and refueling processes of Kaleidos microreactor systems.
• Tech Stack: CAD (NX or similar)
What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop: Partner with design and manufacturing engineers to develop innovative production tooling for fabricating and assembling complex mechanisms and structures.
• Engineer: Design, analyze, and fabricate tooling that enables semi-remote operations for fueling and defueling the reactor systems.
• Source: Identify and develop appropriate suppliers for tooling components and fabrication services to support production.
• Innovate: Innovate custom tooling solutions specifically tailored for the mass production and assembly of Kaleidos microreactor systems.
• Plan: Contribute to the early development of production tooling, ensuring readiness for the factory’s mass production goals.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in mechanical, manufacturing, or other closely related engineering discipline. This position is suited for an early career engineer who will focus on developing critical tooling for advanced microreactor systems.
• Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience, which can include internship experience, specifically in mechanical tooling design and fabrication of multi-component assemblies. This includes practical experience with CAD software such as NX or similar platforms.
• Skills: A solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) coupled with practical experience in applying these principles to create accurate fabrication drawings; demonstrated capability in designing and fabricating mechanical tooling components.
• Bonus: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in mechanical, manufacturing, or a related engineering discipline; proficiency with both “hand calc” analytical methods and higher fidelity finite element-based analysis methods; practical experience with custom machine design, including electromechanical systems, motors, actuators, linear rails, bearings, and lifting/rigging; strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills to facilitate clear communication across teams; demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail; proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with both design and operations teams.
