ThinkBIG Intern Technician – Chattanooga, Crossville, West Knoxville | Stowers Machinery Corporation
The Tone:
This is an internship at Stowers Machinery Corporation, a Caterpillar dealer specializing in the sales and service of heavy machinery, located in Chattanooga, Crossville, and West Knoxville, TN. This role is crucial for developing specialized technicians who will service and repair Cat machines and engines, supporting industries like construction, agriculture, mining, and power generation. The program requires a rotation of living in Americus, GA and your Stowers location for 8 weeks at a time until graduation, typically 18-24 months.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Advance: Participate in a structured two-year ThinkBIG program, combining classroom instruction with hands-on training to develop expertise.
• Repair: Perform mechanical tasks, including removing, installing, disassembling, assembling, testing, and adjusting components with minimal supervision.
• Achieve: Complete assigned jobs and tasks efficiently to meet established flat rate times and re-work metrics.
• Document: Maintain accurate records by completing required paperwork and accessing relevant databases such as work orders, parts orders, DBS, and SIS Web.
• Secure: Ensure a safe work environment by adhering to all company safety policies, procedures, and contamination control standards.
The Must-Haves
• Background: High school diploma or GED required, with an interest in completing ThinkBIG program coursework leading to an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in South Georgia. General knowledge of engines, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, mechanical, and pneumatic systems is essential.
• Experience: One to three years of related experience or training in mechanical or technical fields, or prior exposure to mechanical or technical work environments.
• Skills: Ability to follow safety procedures and contamination control standards, strong communication skills for accurate documentation, and familiarity with basic hand tools, diagnostic software, and precision measuring instruments.
• Bonus: Clean driving record and the ability to obtain a CDL within 90 days for potential field assignments, interest in heavy equipment technology and diagnostics, and flexibility to work various schedules including overtime and on-call assignments.
