Spark Academy is a co-ed, residential treatment program specifically for adolescents, specializing in neurodiversity. It operates as a true non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, distinguishing itself as one of the few such non-profit treatment programs in the nation, committed to maintaining high integrity in its standards of care. The organization boasts a 19-acre campus that facilitates diverse intervention approaches.
Job Description: Therapy Internship Positions
Spark Academy is offering two Therapy internship positions with a targeted start date of Summer 2025. These positions are designed for graduate students.
Schedule:
The internship is part-time. Internship hours will be coordinated to align with university requirements and the supervising Therapist’s schedule. Shifts are generally during general business hours, Monday – Friday. Group therapy sessions held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons are mandatory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of an experienced, licensed Therapist, the intern will:
• Serve as an Intern Therapist for a part-time caseload of up to 3 students.
• Provide intense assessment and specific treatment planning in collaboration with parents, students, and the Treatment Team. This includes taking ownership of Master Treatment Plans to outline goals and objectives.
• Conduct 1 hour of individual therapy and 1 hour of family therapy weekly for each student.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Plan and conduct group therapy sessions, as coordinated with the supervisory Therapist.
• Lead weekly Treatment Team meetings to plan and coordinate the therapeutic needs, goals, and objectives for each student on their caseload, ensuring these plans are followed.
• Effectively communicate with parents/guardians and associated professionals in a timely and situation-based manner, keeping them informed of significant events or changes.
• Assist parents and other family members in becoming involved in their child’s treatment and care.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Candidates should possess:
• An understanding of neurodiversity and familiarity with proven clinical theories and applications for trauma treatment, polyvagal theory, executive functioning deficits, learning and processing differences, distress tolerance, rigid thinking, and mood disorders.
• Excellence in flexibility and adaptability to handle unexpected situations in treatment.
• Good computer skills and the ability to learn and utilize the company’s internal technical tools.
• A learning mindset, continuously seeking to improve and develop.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be:
• Currently enrolled as an MSW, MFT, or CMHC graduate student.
• Preferably in their second year of graduate study.
• Must have completed requirements for their 1st or 2nd year of graduate school to begin the internship.
• At least 21 years of age or older.
• Proficient and fluent in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing English.
