Position Overview: Technology Systems Design Co-op

CMTA offers a robust co-op program for college students pursuing degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Architectural Engineering. This program provides an invaluable opportunity for students to immerse themselves for one or more semesters in the consulting engineering world. Co-ops will build industry-competitive skills in a hands-on environment, working within a team, and receiving training from Professional Engineers in AutoCAD and Revit. The skills acquired enable co-ops to create real construction drawings for actual CMTA projects.

This specific co-op position offers a unique opportunity for hands-on training in Technology Systems design. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrate the ability to work effectively both within a team and independently. Our experienced engineers will provide comprehensive instruction on designing and implementing various technology systems, including but not limited to security, audio visual, IT infrastructure, and IT active equipment. This role is an exceptional chance to contribute to some of the industry’s most challenging and complex technology projects, becoming an integral part of our design team. You will gain firsthand knowledge of how technology systems integrate to create the most secure and high-performing buildings. This position will be onsite in our Lexington office.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed layout and equipment details for building technology systems.
• Produce one-line diagrams/schematics.
• Assist the design team in the process of assembling organized sets of drawings.
• Assist in data collection and/or field verification.
• Work in conjunction with designers and engineers to help develop all aspects of a project.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a BSEE, preferably a sophomore (2nd year) or a junior (3rd year).
Strong interest in Technology Systems and Electrical Engineering.
• Preference for candidates with experience designing, installing, or servicing audio visual, network, or security systems and/or equipment.
CAD experience, preferably AutoCAD.
• Revit experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to work both independently and with a team.
• Located in or attending school in or around central KY with the ability to travel locally for field work.
