Technology Summer Analyst Program (New York)

Overview: This 10-week program offers a unique opportunity for aspiring technologists to experience the world of financial technology at Morgan Stanley. You will be placed within a specific development, engineering, or business & data analytics team, gaining hands-on experience through real-world projects.

Training Program: The program kicks off with an induction day providing an overview of Morgan Stanley. Following that, you will be directly placed into your team. In addition to working on a live project, you will benefit from:

• Technical demonstrations
• Team-building opportunities
• Participation in the Firm’s community service initiatives

Role and Responsibilities:

Development Teams: Design, develop, and maintain applications used by various business units. This involves:
• Meeting with clients to gather and analyze requirements
• Making system design decisions
• Evaluating, integrating, and developing software
• Testing and deploying applications to production
• Projects include developing high-performing, low-latency electronic trading systems, evolving complex workflows, and managing life-cycle capabilities.

Enterprise Engineering Teams: Develop cutting-edge systems to run Morgan Stanley’s business. Engineers provide tools, applications, and platforms like:
• Networks
• Computing hardware
• Operating systems
• Databases for trading applications, mobile applications, and other end-user applications.
• Projects include engineering the Firm’s websites, managing the Windows plant, and developing a client reporting delivery system.

Business & Data Analytics Teams: Engage with business units to analyze, capture, and validate requirements with technology teams to solve business challenges. Business & data analysts leverage their technical skills to:
• Provide technical, data analytics, data science, and process excellence skills
• Support upfront product and data analysis as well as end-to-end solution development.

Qualifications and Skills:

General:
• GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and analytical skills
• Experience in the financial services sector is not required.

Development/Enterprise Engineering:
• Studying towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Software Engineering, or other related technical majors.
• Strong understanding of Linux /Unix and Windows
• Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., C, C++, Java or C#)
• Experience in object-oriented development
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and complexity theory
• Strong database and scripting skills.

Business & Data Analytics:
• Studying towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related majors with a keen interest in the financial services industry.
• Experience documenting IT solution requirements (business, functional, and/or technical)
• Strong technical knowledge.

Compensation: Expected base pay rate(s) for the role will be between $70,000 and $110,000 per year at the commencement of employment. This base pay is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include discretionary bonuses and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
