TITLE OF POSITION: Technical Lab Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Academics
LOCATION: Varies (Lettinga, Lansing, Midland, and Warren)
REPORTS TO: Academic Department Chair
PAY: $12.48/Hour

SUMMARY:
The Technical Lab Assistant is a professional role focused on supporting student success by providing one-on-one and small group instruction. This position also involves assisting instructors and maintaining a conducive lab environment. All responsibilities must be performed ethically and align with the University’s mission, vision, and values, which include diversity, equity, and inclusion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide direct assistance to students in various technical areas, including but not limited to:
• Adobe software (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator)
• Programming languages (e.g., HTML, C, C#, Java, VB)
• Networking
• PC Maintenance
• Biometrics
• Maintain a positive and welcoming attitude to foster student learning.
• Report any concerns or issues to the coordinator promptly.
• Accurately record tutoring hours using the designated forms.
• Assist students with general computer software and academic matters as required.
• Communicate effectively and appropriately with students, staff, and faculty.
• Consistently provide excellent customer service, anticipating and exceeding customer needs.
• Support faculty and staff with hardware and software issues related to coursework and provide instructional assistance.
• Execute all duties in the best interest of both the University and its students.
• Contribute to student recruitment activities for the College of Technology.
• Adhere to all external and internal regulations and policies, including those related to NCAA, GLIAC, and other national affiliations for athletics or specific roles.
• Perform other assigned duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
• Must hold at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
• Possess a minimum of one year of relevant experience.
• Teaching or mentoring experience is preferred.
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in software and programming knowledge, including but not limited to MS-Office, Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML, FTP.
• Willingness to continuously expand knowledge in computer technology and software utilized at the University.
Interpersonal & Communication Skills:
• Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems.
• Proven ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and to promote a positive working environment, a spirit of cooperation, and constructive approaches to change and conflict resolution.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication (both written and oral), and presentation skills, adaptable to diverse audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and build rapport with students, parents, faculty, staff, and others while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.

Work Schedule & Environment:
• Ability to work an irregular schedule, including evenings or Saturdays, as needed.
• Availability for additional hours during peak times or as required.
• The position’s hours are limited; candidates should refer to the Employee Definitions for ‘limited part-time’ status.
• The work environment is primarily a Computer Lab setting.
• Requires prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
• Involves the use of a personal computer and telephone, which may cause eye and hand strain.
• Moderate lifting requirements, up to 50 lbs.
