Technical Direction Internship – Disney Live Entertainment

About This Transformative Opportunity

This is a unique, full-time, 6-month immersive internship experience designed to launch your career in live entertainment technical production. You will join us in Orlando, Florida, from June 2026 through January 2027, playing a pivotal role in creating unforgettable Disney moments.

What You Will Do

As a Technical Direction Intern, you will be an integral part of our dynamic Technical Direction Team. This team is the critical nexus for integrating all design fields that craft the compelling narratives of our iconic live show offerings, including grand parades, spectacular stage shows, and special events both on and off Disney property. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with an innovative mindset, a profound fervor for Disney’s renowned quality, and a passion for magical creativity. You will ensure that Disney’s exacting standards are consistently reflected across all design and technical materials, bringing visions to vibrant reality.

Your Core Responsibilities May Include:

  • Supporting the Technical Director throughout the entire technical production process, including producing meticulous documentation, detailed technical intent, and comprehensive drawing packages.
  • Conducting precise on-site location surveys to ensure appropriate and seamless technical integration.
  • Collaborating effectively with diverse cross-functional teams, including visionary designers, diligent safety teams, expert engineers, and dedicated facility teams, fostering a culture of teamwork and shared success.
  • Assisting with crucial updates to technical documentation packages, such as detailed scopes of work and comprehensive deliverables matrices, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
  • Aiding in extensive design and technical research, contributing to cutting-edge solutions and creative advancements.
  • Creating and diligently maintaining sustainment documentation, ensuring the longevity and operational excellence of our magical experiences.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, coupled with strong interpersonal abilities, essential for effective team collaboration.
  • A proven understanding of the performing arts industry, demonstrated through practical experience in professional theatre and/or live events.
  • The ability to excel in a demanding, fast-paced environment while consistently meeting critical deadlines and key touch points.
  • Strong leadership potential and an unwavering zeal for team collaboration, embodying the spirit of Disney teamwork.
  • The capability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and handle confidential information with the utmost discretion.
  • Proficiency with essential office software, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • A working knowledge of industry-standard drafting programs such as AutoCAD, Vectorworks, and Revit.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with the following skills and experiences will be highly advantageous:

  • Foundational knowledge in Engineering, Architecture, Design, and Construction Management.
  • Practical fabrication skills, demonstrating hands-on technical aptitude.
  • Prior experience in Project Management, showcasing organizational and execution capabilities.
  • Previous design or technical roles within a theatrical or live event setting, providing relevant industry insight.

Education Requirements

Applicants must be currently enrolled as a Junior, Senior, or Graduate student (MFA), actively pursuing a degree in a technical design-related field.

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information

To be considered for this exceptional opportunity in Orlando, Florida, candidates MUST meet all of the following requirements:

  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university, taking at least one class at the time of application posting, OR actively participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization for the United States.
  • Possess a valid US driver’s license and demonstrate the ability to safely operate a company vehicle.
  • Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program.
  • Be able to maintain a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the entire duration of the internship.

Additional Information

  • Candidates must be compliant with The Disney Look appearance guidelines.
  • Ability to provide reliable transportation to and from the work location.
  • Must be fully available for the entire duration of the internship (June 2026 – January 2027).

  • The pay rate for this role in Orlando, FL is $18.75 per hour.
